JazzVox Concerts in 2008!

July 25, 2008 - (Camano Island Location only)
Jackie Ryan
w/ TBD

"Extraordinary -- a world-class talent!" Don Heckman, jazz critic for the Los Angeles Times, calls her. And it's no wonder. She has a magnetic stage presence. Wherever she performs - domestically, or in Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada -- it's the same story. She's been such a hit at London's famed Ronnie Scott's Club (where she has been a regular for the last eight years) that the owner, Pete King, asked Jackie to appear on Ronnie Scott's own prestigious Jazz House label and the London Evening Standard called her "one of the finest singers to perform at Ronnie's since Shirley Horn." Among the many jazz greats Jackie has sung, recorded, or toured with are: Clark Terry (at the Monterey Jazz Festival), Toots Thielemans, Barry Harris, Cyrus Chestnut, Terry Gibbs, Buddy DeFranco, Red Holloway, Eric Alexander, Ernie Watts, Roy McCurdy, and Jon Hendricks - just a few of the legends with whom she has shared the stage, and who sing her praises as well.

Paul de Barros in the Seattle Times said, "Ryan's the real item. She doesn't just sing beautifully and in tune, but with the kind of conviction that makes you feel her life depended on your understanding what she was saying."

Jackie's newest CD, "You And The Night And The Music," released in the fall of 2007, was #1 nationwide on JAZZWEEK's industry standard chart and topped the charts in the USA for seven solid months!

August 22, 2008 - (Camano Island Location only)
Amandah Jantzen
w/ Weixiang, piano

“An enthusiastic and charismatic performer who is also subtle, Amandah Jantzen is a constant joy, both musically and personally.” – (Scott Yanow, jazz critic - Los Angeles, CA)

Amandah Jantzen is a very talented Jazz singer and piano player, with a solid reputation within the jazz community and beyond. Her fourth and newest recording “Northern Star” was recorded during her recent stay in Singapore and Korea.

Amandah also took part in the prestigious “Jazzconnect” International Jazz festival and came in a remarkable 2nd.place, finishing as the highest placed female vocalist.

Renowned jazz critic, Scott Yanow will feature Jantzen among his “Top 500 Jazz Vocalists” in his upcoming book, “The Jazz Singers”.

October 24, 2008 - (Camano Island Location only)
A Dynamic Duo!
singer-pianist
Patti Wicks
w/ local treasure
Greta Matassa !
While my focus for this series is to feature visiting vocalists, we have some amazing talent right here! To keep it a special and unique performance, I'm pairing the fantastic Greta Matassa with the brilliant MAXJAZZ pianist/vocalist Patti Wicks.

Greta has been called by the press "stratospherically gifted" (Earshot Jazz) and "a marvel of virtuosity" (Los Angeles Times) - I couldn't agree more. She's magic.

One of my favorite of Patti's many great reviews was in Cadence magazine: "Patti uses her low alto voice with its sand papery undertones to tell stories about love's fragility". If you're looking for sweet honey-toned vocals (often with no emotional connection), keep looking. If you're looking for the real deal... Patti's vocals cut to the core of the lyric, phrasing makes all too much sense and impressive skills on the keyboard will be a wonderful match for Greta.

Those of you in/near Seattle/Bellevue/Issaquah who can't make this performance... please consider supporting these artists at Bake's Place the following night (October 26th).
